Just days after Meghan McCain argued that Greta Thunberg didn’t earn the Time Person of the Year award for 2019, Whoopi Goldberg, on The View, told her, “Girl, please stop talking!,” during a heated political argument involving Republican Senators and the impeachment hearing.
McCain was visibly upset and didn’t speak for the remainder of the episode.
Joy Behar argued with both McCain and Abby Huntsman over the current political climate. After Sunny Hostin joined in on the discussion to talk about the hypocrisy of the current Republican Senators regarding Bill Clinton’s impeachment and the current impeachment trials, McCain argued that it wasn’t her job to “litigate the ethics” of political actions.
McCain spoke over Hostin numerous times until Hostin insisted, “Let me talk. I let you talk, let me finish.”
Goldberg commented, at length, on the situation. Watch her and McCain squash the argument below.
Goldberg insists, “We are just going to do a little clean-up before we do anything. Things get a little heated on this show. If you watch this show, you know this has happened over the years. We’re really passionate. We come in, we talk to each other. Sometimes, we’re not as polite as we could be … but you’re going to be dealing with the same thing when you sit around the table with your family, and you don’t agree … This is part of what we do. This is not an indication that women can’t sit around and talk. This is not an indication that we don’t know how to deal with each other on camera. This is happening in real-time … Don’t assume that we are over here with butcher knives under the table … Everybody, just calm down.”
McCain responds, “Can I say something? Whoopi and I get along great … I’ve loved you for a long time. You were good friends with my dad. We fight like we’re family. It’s all good. We’re not tearing the set apart. Calm down, all of you.”
