Netflix offended plenty of people after announcing The First Temptation of Christ, a Netflix Christmas comedy special that portrays Jesus as homosexual. Porta dos Fundos, a Brazilian YouTube comedy group, created the special.
The trailer, which can only be seen on Netflix, shows a 30-year-old Jesus returning home with Orlando, his male “friend.” When asked where he knows Orlando from, Jesus responds, “The desert,” while Orlando talks about how much he loves the one character’s robe.
Orlando sings, “God is so good. He created the world in seven days. And, after a little while, he drowned his creation. Hey!” The trailer also features the use of recreational drugs.
There is already a petition for Netflix to cancel the special. It currently has over 1.8 million signatures. It reads, “In favor of the removal of the film from the NETFLIX catalog and for the ‘Porta dos Fundos’ to be held responsible for the crime of villainous faith. We also want public retraction, as they have seriously offended Christians.”
Porta dos Fundos responded, insisting they value “artistic freedom and humor through satire on the most diverse cultural themes of our society and [believe] that freedom of expression is an essential construction for a democratic country.”
Netflix has yet to comment.
