After years of tension-filled arguments and disagreements, Jay-Z and Kanye West, along with Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, reunited at Diddy‘s 50th birthday party.
Last year, on David Letterman’s Netflix talk show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Jay-Z offered some insight into the rapper’s relationship with the polarizing Kanye. He said, “That’s my brother. We’re beyond friends. Like literally, my little brother is Kanye. And like your little brother, things happen sometimes.”
Those things that happened include a 2016 falling out after Kanye’s wife Kim was robbed in Paris. Kanye felt disrespected by Jay-Z’s response. On stage, he told the crowd, “Don’t call me after the robbery and say, ‘How you feelin’?’ You wanna know how I’m feeling? Come by the house … Bring the kids by the house, like we’re brothers.”
In 2017, the two rapper’s animosity extended into their business relationship. Kanye insists that Jay-Z’s streaming platform Tidal owes him money. Kanye said, “It went into some Tidal/Apple political [explitive] about percentage on songs. I can’t take this [explitive], bro! Our kids have never even played together.”
Kanye is referring to Jay-Z and Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy and his and Kim’s daughter North.
According to one partygoer, Kanye and Jay-Z “greeted each other and seemed friendly and happy to see each other. The Carters and the Wests were all in a section behind Diddy and his family.”
Does this spell the start of a renewed friendship, or perhaps brothership?
